You’re not behind in life

As an 25 year old student I get the question: ”do you know what you want to do in life?” a lot. It frustrates me, because how do I know. One day I visualize myself as a writer for a big magazine. The other day I see myself working as a freelancer on Bali living the good life. Every grown up person would say: your twenties are the best time of your life! You will learn to be independent, make friendships who last forever and you will eventually find yourself.
And all of that is true. But your twenties are also the most questionable, scary and uncertain times. A lot of people enter your life and they leave as quickly as they came. In your twenties it is important to be selfish, to completely focus on what you want to create. Time is now, is one of the quotes I often forgot about.
I felt behind because a lot of my friends already finished their studies or they started a family. Often we compare ourselves to others, our lives, we wonder why we don’t have what anybody else has. The grass looks greener on the other side. But everyone has their things they go through. We don’t see other people’s struggles, we tend to only look at other people’s success. Watch your life change when you look at your own success. The steps you took, ignoring your fears and just go for it.
Where you are is exactly where you need to be. Trust the timing of your life. In the past I could beat myself up about things I didn’t do or the things I did. It hold me back and I couldn’t focus on my future. Decide what it is you want and go for it! You have the time, even when this feels different. Don’t beat yourself up, give it another try!

I love this sentence “where you are is exactly where you need to be”. So many times I feel frustrated because I don’t know if I’m doing well, if I could do more, if it would be better if I was in another place. But this state make me feel calm and relaxed and I understand that all I can do is live here with an open heart and a peaceful mind. Thanks for your light 🙂 wish you the best.

Trusting in the timing of your life is such a great piece of advice – now more than ever it’s a scary and uncertain time but we will get through this. Learning to trust our instincts is all part of this 🙂
Thank you for sharing this! It’s in fact one of the affirmations that I write every day “you are exactly where you need to be”. What a brilliant post. I always have thoughts like this because my aspirations are not the “norm.” Love Amy at amymarshment.com xx
I love this so much Esmee! It is so easy to feel like we are behind in life and not as successful as others and it is so easy to compare ourselves to others too. Like you said so many times, the grass looks greener on the other side but not everything that glitter’s is gold and most times we see people’s success but everyone has their weak points and challenges. Yes we are exactly where we need to be and I believe there’s a right timing for everything. Everything, absolutely everything will fall in place at the right time. Amazing post x!

Hi Ruth, it is right! thank you so much for your lovely comment!xxx
I absolutely enjoyed your post. We definitely must stop comparing ourselves to others or over criticizing ourselves for where we are currently in life.
If we just focus on the moment we can work on ourselves even more and really reach those goals so we can be a better space.
